Dans l'écho des racines

Ongoing research creation

Dans l'écho des racines is a choreographic project initiated by the invitation of BIGICO (contemporary quebecois step-dancing presenter), to develop a work where quebecois step-dancing and flamenco meet within the same corporeality. Those traditional percussive dances, central to my dance history, have evident affinities but they also have specific (sometimes opposite) perspectives on the sonorous, spatial, weight and imaginary dimensions of the body in movement. I am deeply interested by the fertile space that opens up between oppositions, whether within the same corporeality and / or between traditions as different as jig and flamenco. Before diving into the creation of this choreographic project, I invited artists from the quebecois tradition and flamenco to explore some of the roots of these traditions in October 2020.

The know-how associated with each of these danced traditions acts like roots, a poetic starting point to initiate creation : the roots allow the growth and anchoring of plants and trees, but they are also a powerful means of communication and offer underground support. Dans l'écho des racines will take place between those two breeding grounds, in order to offer a unique experience of the sound body.

Dans l'écho des racines will premiere in the Fall of 2023 at the Théâtre aux Écuries, Montreal.
